Craig Principe

Partner

From Prosecutor to Defense Attorney. Experience Focused on Your Future.

Craig Principe understands how overwhelming it can be to face criminal charges or other serious legal problems. He works closely with clients to help them understand their circumstances, evaluate their options, and make informed decisions. Drawing on his experience as both a federal and state prosecutor, Craig carefully examines evidence, develops strategic defenses, and advocates for his clients in and out of court. His background informs his work in federal criminal defense and North Carolina criminal defense.

Before entering private practice, Craig served for six years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Middle District of North Carolina. He conducted federal criminal investigations and prosecuted cases involving robbery, firearms offenses and trafficking, drug trafficking and conspiracy, money laundering, interstate threats, and other federal crimes.

During two of those years, Craig served as the district's National Security/Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council Coordinator, investigating federal offenses involving national security, domestic violent extremism, terrorism, and attacks on energy facilities and critical infrastructure. His federal litigation experience includes jury trials, motions and sentencing hearings, supervised release violations, and appellate advocacy before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Before his federal service, Craig spent six years as a North Carolina Assistant District Attorney. He tried dozens of cases before Superior Court juries, including serious felony matters involving violent crimes, robbery, assault, and first-degree murder. His state prosecution experience also encompassed drug offenses, domestic violence, child abuse, and a broad range of felony and misdemeanor charges.

Today, Craig uses his prosecutorial experience to anticipate legal challenges, critically assess the government's evidence, and develop defense strategies tailored to each client's situation. His approach combines thorough preparation, clear communication, and a commitment to protecting his clients' rights and interests.
