Other Talents and Hobbies

Outside of court Karen is an avid equestrian (horse-riding), competing in the sport of three day eventing. Three day eventing is the equestrian version of a triathlon. Karen has been riding, training and competing horses since she was a young person. While at college at Carolina she competed on the UNC Equestrian Team, earned her U.S.P.C. National B rating and taught riding lessons. In between college and law school at Wake Forest, Karen spent a year training and working full time at an Olympic training facility in Florida. By the time she started law school, she had competed through preliminary level eventing and 4th level dressage on her self-made horses. While she is now focused on her law practice and family, she still enjoys the discipline of the training process and works to continue to improve herself everyday.
